Description

The “Handmade Christmas” event was the first project I worked for The Craft House as an Art Director. The “Handmade Christmas” event included series of activities. On the week before Christmas, when coming to stores, customers could make a small gift from our handmade station that we prepared. It could be a little gift tag or a Christmas card or even a polaroid frame with your picture in it, etc. Then they could decorate it with a lot of things that we had made like an origami Santa Clause, a star, an origami of cotton candy, etc. The best part was that we gift wrapped everything for free.

Behind the brand | THE CRAFT HOUSE

The Craft House was a Vietnam's first curated retailer of modern craft and design. Their mission was to create a place that people could easily find meaningful and unique gift for family and friends. Their products ranging from handmade stationery, souvenirs to jewelries, leather goods and furniture.

Process of making the poster

After sketching my idea on paper and describing what I wanted to do with this poster, my team started working on folding all of the origami that was needed for the photoshoot.

At first I thought we could make the “flying Santa” by gluing him to a wooden stick and move it through the background. But when we were on set, we realized our hands and the stick created too much shadow on the Santa. Then we figured out a clever solution which was hanging him with fishing nylon string and blu-tack.

Typography

Typography-wise, I visualized a font that was clearly bringing handcrafted feelings for the title. Luckily, I found Troika font by Joel Carrouche. To make a handcrafted effect and highlight the meaning of the poster, I decided to draw letters on carton paper and cut them out. After that, we just took pictures of it and turned it into digital materials.

This is an era of social media. It is understandable to not only take care our customers who come to stores, but we also need to engage with them on social media. That’s why we made some tutorial videos to show them how to make Christmas gifts. Moreover, we had a link for people to download free polaroid frame that we made so that they could do it at home.

Cover for Facebook page and video for shipping policy with the similar look of the poster to make the whole event consistent.

I made this video with snowing effect and the “Let It Snow” song sung by Daniela Andrade. Please enjoy my small gift!
